Instant Pot Bone Broth Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2-3 pounds of beef soup bones OR chicken necks/backs
- 1 onion, quartered (leave the skin on for extra color)
- 2 carrots, roughly chopped
- 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Water (enough to cover the bones and vegetables)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bones:
- If using raw bones, roast them in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 30 minutes to enhance the flavor. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Load the Instant Pot:
- Add the roasted bones (or raw if you prefer) to the Instant Pot.
- Add the onion, carrots, celery, apple cider vinegar, bay leaves, and salt.
- Pour enough water into the Instant Pot to cover the bones and vegetables, but do not exceed the max fill line.
- Cook the Broth
- Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and make sure the vent is set to "Sealing."
- Select the "Soup/Broth" setting and set the timer for 120 minutes (2 hours).
- Allow the Instant Pot to naturally release pressure once the cooking time is complete. This can take about 30-40 minutes.
- Strain the Broth
- Carefully open the Instant Pot and strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl to remove the bones and vegetables. Discard the solids.
- Cool and Store
- Let the broth cool to room temperature. You can skim off any excess fat that rises to the top, if desired.
- Pour the broth into glass jars or storage containers. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen or pressure canned for longer term storage.
Usage Tips:
- Use your homemade bone broth as a base for soups, stews, and sauces, or sip it on its own for a nutritious drink.
- When reheating, you can add salt or seasoning to taste.
Enjoy your nourishing, homemade bone broth! 🍲
